MeditationMost of us were taught that in order to accomplish anything we had to push ourselves, we had to fully concentrate on a goal. This creates problems though because the more we push purselves the tenser we become and our achieve- ment suffers because of this. A meditative attitude towards life means, that we are as conciouss as possible and try at every moment to do our best – and also of course to receive the best from every moment. We can only be conciouss when we are relaxed. I compare the brain with a computer. Over time umpteen programs will be played, others uninstalled, countless data fed in, stored, and then erased. However, remnants do remain in the registry, which work eventualy to slow down our system to the point of total collapse. This application will beclosed because of an invalid command! Everyone knows this error message who has worked with Windows. Tilt! At a certain point only one thing helps: format everything and install a new operating system. In effect meditation does the same thing, step by step. The intellect prattles away constantly, even when we sleep. Therefore the focus needs to be on calming our heads, our psyches and our unconciouss as well as becoming friends with this extrodinary computer. One single second without thinking is a quantum leap! The focus is on the moment, the being – no future, no past, pure conciousness. Tantra has the same basis. Meditation is a technique which can help us in many ways to become more conciouss. Once you get the hang of it, it can become a constant companion. Osho developed many methods more suited to the Western lifestyle, like the so-called active meditation. Tantrists have developed other brilliant practices: Micromeditations. Just as the lightbulb has established itself, today meditation is a universal concept. One helps us to illuminate the outside world, the other the inside world. Meditation is based on a very basic insight: instead of fighting the darkness (which is impossible) we can simply turn the light on. Instead of fighting with ourselves in order to satisfy the pre-conceptions of others, we can begin to accept ourselves as we really are. We can experience no greater freedom than to be how we really are – free from expectations, living spontaneously with high conciousness and no ego. That is what tantra says! The most astonishing thing about meditation is: when we have learned how to look inside and to love ourselves, only then are we in a position to share our love with others. We have to begin with ourselves! Moder day life puts us under an unprecedented pressure to perform, people were never as tense as they are today. The crazy amount of input which we are exposed to everyday eventually leads to chaos. Copyright by Amano |
